In 2006, TomTom joined forces with the insurance company Delta Lloyd, the insurance brokerage company AON and the car rental agency Athlon, to have an independent study carried out at the TNO, the leading Dutch research organisation.

This was the first, reliable and independent study conducted in this domain. This study, which was carried out over six months, used a number of research methods (user surveys, database analyses, experiments, bibliographic research, etc.)

This study proves the value of systems such as TomTom and clearly demonstrates their positive impact on road safety!







These are the main conclusions

  • - The use of a navigation system gives drivers better control over their situation and makes them less distracted and stressed.
  • - For drivers without a navigation system, 12% more road accidents were declared and 5 % more damages were noted.
  • - The use of a navigation system improves response times by 12 %.
  • - The use of a navigation system reduces workloads by 20 %.
  • - The use of a navigation system reduces mileage by 16 % and driving times by 18 %.
